Kaia is 2.5 years old today! I'm pretty certain that I forgot to do her 35 month update last month, so here's what has been happening in the past few months.
First off, Kaia talks. A lot. She doesn't seem to stop talking, actually. She's using lots of full sentences lately, and has sprouted off phrases such as 'Me too' and 'Noooo! Dada no eat Nuggie's crackers!! Nuggie eat Nuggie's crackers!!!!!!' She still calls herself Nuggie, and I have to admit that I'll be sad whenever she stops. Kaia can't say her 's' or 'f' sounds really yet, but once you figure out that she can't it's not too hard to understand what she's saying. She also likes to tell me that things are 'oooo unny' (soo funny) when she's reading her story books or Keila makes her laugh.
Kaia still adores Keila, and they usually play well together. Kaia is not too interested in sharing however, and last week she informed me that she didn't want to share her (actually Keila's) doll house with Keila. I told her that she won't have friends if she doesn't share, and she then let me know that 'Keila no Nuggie friend. Mama Nuggie friend, Keila no'. So I guess Mama gets to play with the doll house.
Kaia is also quite strong-willed, and woe is the person who tries to tell her no. We tend to have the most screaming fits on weekends when nap time gets thrown off, but they can occur any time really when she doesn't get what she wants. Tonight at dinner she was quite angry that Mama cut her tofu up too small.
Kaia is often interested in where people are when they're not with us, and every day she confirms with me that Keila is at school and Dada is at work. And it's always quite exciting when both Keila and Dad get home, of course.
Kaia really loves 'helping' and always wants to carry items when we shop or try to push the cart. She also demands to mix ingredients whenever there's any cooking going on. Needless to say, there's usually a huge mess after she's done, but she is very proud of herself.
Kaia cam now draw little circles and lines quite well (about the size of the end of a pen), and she's become interested in sticker books and placing things where they go. She still loves to read and look at story books all the time, too.
Another obsession is her strawberry-print umbrella, which gets used on both rainy and sunny days. Considering that she still wears her rain boots most days, I guess we shouldn't be too surprised by the umbrella.
In the past week, Kaia has taken to making runs for it whenever she feels like taking off, so Mommy has to watch has her even more carefully now. She ran out the door suddenly while we were waiting for Keila to finish swimming, but thankfully she's still scared of strangers so stopped long enough for Mom to catch up when she saw the big kids outside.
All of Kaia's teeth but part of her final molar are in, and even that final one may be fully through by now. The last time I checked was at the dentist a few weeks ago. Kaia had her first tooth cleaning and all looks good. She cooperated nicely and was quite impressed with the flossing bit for some reason. The dentist told her that she needs to floss at least once a day, so she reminds me 3 times a day when we brush her teeth.
Kaia is I think nearly 90 cm now, so still somewhat short. Everyone here keeps commenting on how tall she is for some reason though.
Bedtime isn't going all that well, and Kaia usually calls for Mommy once or twice before going to sleep. She then often wakes up for good some time between 4-5:30 every morning. She's already screamed for Mommy twice tonight, but she did at least sleep until 5:45 this morning.
We're off to visit Grandma and family in about a week, so fingers crossed that Kaia enjoys long plane rides!
Until next month....
