Today's Post: Kaia is 17 Months!

Kaia is 17 months old! Our little monkey still isn't walking yet, which is worrying Mom some. She is however, climbing anything and everything. Kaia's new favorite game is climbing onto the sofa and then waiting for one of us to panic and attempt to get her down safely. She also climbs onto Keila's bed and plays happily with all of her stuffed animals.
Kaia does still knee walk lots, and she stands and cruises quite a bit. She will stand for a few seconds at a time on her own if distracted, but she's not at all confident on her feet yet. She absolutely refuses to stand while holding anyone's hands for some reason, and her push walker is only used for knee walking or riding. Kaia loves to climb on her walker, wave bye-bye, and push off with her feet to scoot across the floor. Obviously not the intended purpose, but quite ingenious nonetheless. We think she's actually imitating Daddy when he leaves for work on his moped.
Kaia is also enjoying stacking items and fitting toys together (she has some plastic eggs and shells that she loves), and she's still very into her books. She can say more than 20 words now, including but not limited to: cracker, cheese, nose, mouth, more, poop, purple, book, and ball. Obviously her pronunciation isn't great for all of them, but she does love to chatter.
We've now got 8 teeth on top, either all in or in the process of breaking through, and 6 on the bottom. Kaia has been sleeping terribly, so hopefully once the teeth are in, she will let us rest more.
Other interests include: the cats, helping Mommy with laundry, feeding herself with her Elmo spoon, and pretending to take a bath.
Kaia now weighs about 9.3 or 9.4 kilos, so she's still little but at least has gained some.
Until 1.5 years....

Kaia's 16 Month Update!

Sorry that Kaia's 16 month update is a bit late. She's been keeping me busy!
Still not walking yet, but since last month Kaia has started knee walking. Yes, apparently that is a thing. Kaia does also cruise more, and seems pretty stable as long as she's holding onto something, but she also has no real desire to properly walk, either. She did stand without holding onto anything for a few seconds a few weekends ago, but she hasn't bothered to since. We will just have to wait and see how she progresses in the next month.
Kaia is making leaps and bounds with speaking, however. She isn't putting 2 words together yet, but she's using lots more words in general. Favorites this past month have been: Me-mo when asking for her Elmo spoon, Keila still ('Gaiga'), MaMa, Nai Nai for goodnight, un un (for 'yes' in Japanese), and assorted animals noises that correspond with various animals. She seems to be getting the difference for the most part, as she's been meowing at our cats lately but barking at dogs. She also knows that chickens say bawk bawk and can make monkey noises, too. Kaia also announced tonight for the first (at the dinner table!) that she'd gone 'poo poo'. Now to work on the timing of that.
Kaia's favorite activities still involve putting items into containers and taking them out. I gave her an old wallet containing some kids collector cards, so that's one of her favorite toys at the moment. She also loves her new Anpanman walker, but of course will only walk it around on her knees.
Kaia is getting FOUR new upper teeth in! They seem to be irritating her too, as she's been chewing on her hands a lot. No new lower teeth yet, but I'm sure they will appear soon.
Kaia weighs about the same as last month, 9.1 kilos, but she's been starving lately, so we will see what next month brings. Until then!
