Today's Post: Kaia is 21 Months Today!

Kaia is now 1 and 3/4 years old! She's advancing so quickly, it's hard to keep up with her. She is still quite the little parrot. repeating as best she can whatever we say. Kaia as always tries very hard to communicate, and will work her way around words that she doesn't know. For example, the other day she got my attention, tapped at the cat bowl with her foot, and said 'Meow! UUUMMM !!!'. 'Umm' is Kaia's word for food or eating, so she was telling me that the bowl is where the cat food goes. And yes, she's now combining words. I'm not sure when exactly in the last month that it started, but she's been gradually using pairs of words more and more often. 'Mama...up!' is a big favorite (Mama...get up). Kaia speaks mostly in English, although she does use some Japanese words too, and she can understand most of whatever is said to her in Japanese.
Kaia is also quite the little fashionista, and she always wants to wear necklaces and bracelets. She also likes carrying around purses, too. Once she's dressed up, she will call for Mama or Dada and yell 'Cheese', which is her way of telling us to come take her picture. And she will now hold still and smile for her photos, too, as long as we then let her see them on the camera or phone screen afterward.
Kaia very much likes items in their places, and she gets upset if something gets dropped on the floor or is out of order. That being said, Kaia also doesn't mind getting tons of toys out and scattering them all over as she moves from room to room.
We're also still very into books, and every morning Kaia climbs onto the couch and yells 'Book book' at whomever is nearby, commanding them to read to her. She's not entirely patient enough to sit through every book, but she does pretty well. Some of her favorites are still The Eye Book By Dr. Seuss and a peekaboo book in Japanese, and she's now also enjoying the Nontan series in Japanese.
Kaia is slowly getting over separation anxiety, and she did very well with a babysitter last night, although it was helpful that Keila was also with her. When Kaia is tired, nobody but Mama will do, and she's quite happy to bat away other people's arm and yell for MaMa.
Kaia also has quite the temper, and woe to the person who tells her no to more crackers, or who tries to take away something she shouldn't be playing with.
Besides Keila, Kaia's best friend is probably Sushi the cat. She and Sushi have been getting along really well lately, largely in part due to Sushi's tolerance (stupidity). Kaia flops herself on top of Sushi, and Sushi just purrs, happy to have any attention. Sometimes they nap next to each other, too.
Kaia still isn't sleeping well, and she's actually just woken up, so that's all until next month's update!
