Today's Post: Kaia Is 15 Months!

Kaia is 15 months old today! Still no signs of wanting to walk, although she's becoming steadier on her feet, and since yesterday, she's started taking short 'steps'....on her knees. I've never seen a baby knee 'walk' before, but I guess there's a first for everything. Kaia has also started trying to climb onto the couch, but she can't quite manage to lift her leg that high yet, thankfully!
We've also finally hit 9 kilos! That still leaves her in about the 30th percentile for weight, but at least she's holding steady. No idea how tall she is, but she seems about the same size as other babies around her age? She's been loving avocado and eggs with sesame oil, tiny boiled fish, crackers, cheese, and fruit (strawberries!), although veggies are still quite well tolerated. Pasta is still a big favorite, too. Anything with tomato sauce on it, really. And peanut butter! Kaia's favorite snack is peanut butter spread thinly on crackers. Although more often than not, she will lick the peanut butter off and then toss the crackers to the floor. If only we had a dog. Thankfully, her big sister isn't too picky about grabbing food off the floor to eat. Gross? Maybe. Helpful? Yes!
Kaia is still quite the fan of containers--anything she can put items into and then take them out of....and repeat. She kept quite busy with an envelope and some trading cards yesterday. Paper is fascinating, too, especially anything that Mommy or Keila is interested in. Clothing has become of interest, if only to take it off and try to put it back on. Kaia took her cardigan off this afternoon, and then played for about 15 minutes on her own, just examining it and trying to put it back on!
Kaia's favorite book is (still) her baby picture book that shows the names of various items; she will sit and pore over it for quite a while by herself, but she prefers if I read it to her.
Speech is still progressing well; we're not quite as shy as we used to be, and will often say 'bye-bye' if prompted by Mommy. Kaia also makes the correct sounds when asked what a cat, dog, cow, and bird says. She can correctly point to her ears when asked where they are, and more often than not, she gets her mouth and nose correct, too. Kaia often calls for Keila ('Guy-ga') and calls herself 'Ga-ga' or something similar. Yesterday, she very clearly said the word 'milky', but she hasn't said it again since then.
Peek-a-boo is her favorite game at the moment, only she plays it the Japanese way and yells 'BAAA' when she shows her face. Kaia is quite the ham, and she will do just about anything to make people laugh. After she does something she knows is funny, she will then happily clap for herself.
Kaia has also started to get a temper when tired, and she sometimes lies on the floor and kicks when upset. It's amusing for now, probably won't be so much when she's bigger!
 Until April 30th....

Kaia is 14 Months Old!

Kaia gets to turn 14 months and 15 months old in March!
Here's what she's been doing in the past month:
We now pull to stand (finally)! Kaia first pulled herself up on February 4th, but she only really got quite good at it this past Monday (the 27th). She suddenly started pulling herself up easily and quite often, and now she can already sometimes stand a bit just using one hand for balance. Maybe she really will walk before she turns 10!
Kaia is also gaining some weight, although she's not at 9 kilos yet. She's been eating lots lately so may be having another growth spurt. We'll see how much she gains by the 30th!
Kaia is quite active and vocal, and she LOVES music. Whenever we take walks, she insists that I sing her favorite songs to her. So I either have to sing the ABC song or Baa Baa Black Sheep, repeatedly. If I stop, she then BAAAs at me until I sing again, or makes noises that only I understand for the ABC song.
Kaia has been having fun imitating words and sounds too. She now says 'cracker' quite clearly, along with Hi, Bye, BA (bath), baaa (ball), Keila's name, Dada, Mama, and several others words such as 'cat', 'dog' etc that aren't quite so clear.
Almost every afternoon, she has a great time playing with Keila, and she gets so excited when Keila's bus pulls up. Keila makes her laugh more than anyone else does.
Kaia also loves flowers, and she always want to sniff at them, among other things. Somehow she's learned that we laugh when she picks up a sock and sniffs it, so that's another new game/joke of hers. She's quite the ham lately.
Favorite foods this month are still Italian dishes, cheese, soft dried fruit, fish, and of course baby crackers. Yogurt seems to be on the outs for the time being.
Finally, Kaia loves picture books and wants to know all of the words in them. She will point at every picture in her favorite book and wait for me to name each item.
Kaia still isn't sleeping well, but I keep hoping she will at some point.
I will try to measure her by the next update on the 30th!
 Until then...
