Kaia is now 2 years and 4 months old. I'm pretty sure I forgot to post her 2 year and 3 month update, so here's what's been happening the past 2 months.
Kaia is a talker. At least, she yaps a lot around people she knows. She's using 4-5 word sentences quite often. Examples include: 'Mommy pick up Nuggie' and 'Nooo Dada, Mama change Nuggie nooooo Daddddyyyy'! Kaia is definitely still a mama's girl when she's tired (or needs her diaper changed). She's also been known to mix English and Japanese into sentences, saying things such as 'Mina (everyone) eat this,' or 'Dada this iiii (good)? This no?' when playing and asking Daddy what he wants. Kaia also switches sentence order around sometimes, so she ends up sounding like Yoda. Kaia can't yet say her 's's and a few other sounds are hard, but she does her best to communicate and will actively try to imitate sounds if we practice with her. She still refers to herself in the third person as 'Nuggie' (short for Nugget if I haven't already clarified that), and since we often call her Nuggie too, I've no idea when she will start to call herself by her real name!
Favorite activities still include playing house or cafe. Kaia loves serving tea or coffee to everyone. She also likes getting into Keila's Legos, although her idea of playing with them still just mostly means scattering them all over and making a mess. Occasionally she will pick up a long, thin Lego and pretend she's doing her makeup like Mommy does. Which is of course terrifying to see her jabbing a small but long object around her eyes. She gets quite upset when it's taken away.
Kaia can also throw some major tantrums when exhausted and not getting her way. She had such a fit a few weeks ago about getting into her car seat that I eventually gave up, and we didn't go anywhere that morning. A few neighbors had even come outside after hearing all the screaming, likely to see if someone was being killed. But on the flip side, when she's happy (which is most of the time) she's of course just full of joy, and she gives the best hugs.
Kaia loves music and is often singing or asking for someone to sing to her. Sometimes on long car rides, it's the only thing that will calm her a bit. She also enjoys watching Elmo's World and Peppa Pig on the iPad sometimes in the mornings.
Kaia is sleeping through the night well enough, but she's taken to waking at 5 or 5:30 every morning since last Wednesday. Hoping that doesn't become a permanent habit!
Another joy for Kaia is going to feed 'Big Duck' at the nearby pond. She usually ends up feeding all of the ducks and pigeons, but special delight is reserved for Big Duck, the only large mallard on the pond. For some reason she adores him, even though he's not terribly interested in the proffered bread. She also likes to see the turtles at the pond, although they usually hide from us.
Kaia wants to help as much as possible, especially in the kitchen. She had a great time mixing eggs in a bowl the other day. She also wants to do everything Keila does, and she often imitates her. She will sometimes ask for Keila during the day when Keila is at school, too. It's always great excitement when she sees Keila at our meeting spot after school.
Kaia is finally growing a bit: I think she's around 85 cm now. I haven't weighed her recently, but I'm guessing she's still around 11 kg.
Until next month....
