Here's Kaia's 22 and 23 month update, since I never did get around to the 22 month one. Instead, Mommy was busy frantically trying to compile Kaia's and Keila's annual photo books and calendar before the big Black Friday sale coupon at Snapfish expired. Mission accomplished! Anyway, here's a bit of what's going on in Kaia's world lately.
Kaia LOVES to cook and make tea. She's constantly getting into Keila's Sylvanian Family doll sets and 'cooking' with all of the tiny utensils and toy food. When asked what she's cooking, she just replies happily 'Cook!' and then brings over some of the food for me to 'eat'. We've also had to unplug the coffee maker, since Kaia is just tall enough to reach the on/off switch, and she likes to flick it on and off repeatedly while holding her toy tea cup up to the drip spout. (We've also had to put the coffee pot up, after she tried to carry that around a few weeks ago). She will grab any and all kitchen utensils off the table and counter that are in reach, and several times I've caught her turning the grill function on for our microwave/oven combo.
Kaia also adores Elmo, and she gets really excited whenever she's allowed to watch Sesame Street for a few minutes. When she does watch, there's also frustrated shouting whenever Elmo is not on the screen. Her favorite t-shirt is of course her Elmo shirt, so I've got to hide it so she doesn't wear it too often.
Recently, baby dolls have become another favorite toy. We often have to take a baby on a walk with us or one rides along with Kaia in her stroller. Sometimes the babies have to sit in Kaia's high chair to be fed, or they need a nap. She hasn't named the babies yet though, as Keila used to do.
Potty training has derailed after the first couple times of trying the potty chair. Kaia flat-out refuses to sit on the potty, and she shrieks like a banshee if anyone tries to make her get anywhere near it. Kaia clearly recognizes that other people use the potty, as she nods along happily when told how other people such as big sister or Daddy use the potty. But when asked if she wands to use the potty, she yells 'Nonono!' We're going to give it a break for a few weeks and then ask her again.
Speaking of bodily functions, Kaia has taken to blaming Keila or Daddy every time she passes gas. And then laughing. I've no idea how or why she started blaming everyone else for her toots, but she does it, and since it makes everyone laugh I doubt she will stop any time soon. Haha!
Kaia is speaking lots and often likes to tell me stories about things she sees. For example: 'Gaiga! Arm! Cry!' when Keila (whom she calls Gaiga) bumped her arm and cried. Kaia also likes to tell me when the cats are howling for food, or when she hears birds tweeting on our walks. In public though, she can be very quiet and shy. The exact opposite of the baby who joyfully kicks Mommy when having her diaper changed.
I'm not sure how much Kaia weighs right now or how tall she is, but she's finally outgrown all of her 1 year clothes and can fit ok into most of her 2T outfits. I'll try to remember to weigh her before her 2 year update next month. Until then.....
