Kaia's 20 Month Update!

Kaia is 20 months today! In all of the chaos of our summer travels, I forgot to do her 19 month post. So here's what she's been doing for the past 2 months.
Kaia not only walks well now, but she runs. All over. After all, why walk when you can run? She's loud, too--sometimes I think from the noise that it's Keila running through the room, but instead it's tiny Kaia. Who is still indeed quite little--she was 9.8 kg on August 6, when we flew back from the US. I know, because one of the ground staff made us place her on the luggage scale to confirm that she was under 10 kg. Babies 10 kg and under are allowed in the bassinets at the bulkhead of the plane. Not that Kaia would ever allow herself to sleep in the bassinet, but she did score us some extra leg room at least by getting us the bulkhead seats.
Kaia traveled about as well as one would expect a toddler to travel. She got through the flight to Chicago without a meltdown, but on the flight back about a month later just completely lost it at one point. She screamed for 45 full and long minutes, which was quite impressive. Thank goodness the other passengers exercised restraint and didn't try to toss us off mid-flight. Kaia can definitely throw fits better than her sister, and she will all-out lie on the floor and kick, class temper tantrum style. Lack of sleep seems to be a big factor in this, as the fits often occur if nap or bed time is too late.
Otherwise, Kaia is usually a very happy little girl, full of jokes and joy. She LOVES to make people laugh once she warms up to them. She will repeat the same action endlessly if she think it will make someone keep laughing and smiling at her. She also claps for herself when she's done something she's particularly proud of.
Kaia also loves books, especially those of her big sister. (Keila is of course her idol at the moment). Kaia's favorite book of her own is The Eye Book by Dr. Seuss. We read it at least twice a day.
Other hobbies include getting into Keila's Sylvania Family dolls and dollhouse, and rifling through Keila's desk in search of forbidden pencils. If Kaia can't get into Keila's room, she searches for the recycling bag and carefully hauls out every piece of plastic, painstakingly littering it around the room. Speaking of bags, Kaia got her very own purse while at Grandma's, and she enjoys carrying it around, waving bye bye and blowing kisses as she leaves to 'go shopping'. If she can't locate her purse, she uses whatever paper or plastic bags she can rustle up, filling them with various items she scavenges when Mommy isn't looking.
Music is another one of Kaia's loves, and she will happily dance and sing when songs are playing. She's already got quite good rhythm!
Kaia is getting better and better at speech as the days go by. Recent words include 'thank you' (spoken as one word, as she's not really combining many words yet), water, eye, car, up, bird, and I can't recall how many others. Kaia can be quiet shy in front of people she doesn't know, but she will talk away at home and around people she's comfortable with.
Kaia is starting to get interested in the potty chair, but so far not enough to actually want to use it. She does know what it's for though, so I think we will probably start on it soon.
Finally, Kaia may be starting to dream at night, but I'm not sure. She was up quiet a few times in the night last night crying, but that may have been due to the cabbage she ate at dinner giving her a tummy ache. We shall see how she does tonight.
 Until next month...
